Kadale Bele or Channa Dal Chutney – ಕಡಲೆ ಬೆಲೆ ಚಟ್ನಿ

My mom makes the most amazing Kadale Bele Chutney ಕಡಲೆ ಬೆಲೆ ಚಟ್ನಿ. She prepared this during her recent visit to US. We had this with Dosa, Idli and many times with Chapathi and Rice also.

  • Salt  to taste
  • Jaggery 1/2 teaspoon

For Garnish:

Method:

  1. Roast kadale bele and red chillies, curry leaves on low flame till it turns little golden red.
  2. Let it cool for a few minutes
  3. Grind coconut, roasted kadale bele, curry leaves, tamarind pulp, salt , jaggery by adding little water.
  4. In a pan add oil once its hot add mustard and asafetida

Chana dal is not the fried one mentioned here i guess. fried chana dal is putani in kannada. For chutney we use the one which in fully yellow and not white on one side. Once its well roasted and ground u will realise that it need not be cooked. Plz correct me Meera if m wrong.

      Mrudula,
This is channa dal or kadale bele as it is called in Kannada. This chutney is made of Kadale bele. Not Putani.
