Anyway, Ms. Bhavana Damle had sent the recipe for JOLADA HITTINA MUDDE / UPPITTU ಜೋಳದ ಹಿಟ್ಟಿನ ಮುದ್ದೆ / ಉಪ್ಪಿಟ್ಟು a long time back. I am posting the same now. Thanks, Bhavana,
This is a very tasty dish, can be done either for breakfast or for evening snacks.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup jowar flour
- 4 cups water
- 2 onions finely chopped
- 3-4 green chillies cut into small pieces
- 1 tea spoon grated ginger
- 10 curry leaves
- 1 tea spoon mustard ,1/2 tea spoon jeera and ½ tea spoon turmeric powder for seasoning,
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 tea spoon salt and 3 teaspoons lemon juice (approximate)
Method:
Heat oil in a thick based pan. Add mustard, jeera, curry leaves, chopped onion, green chillies, ginger and turmeric powder one by one. Fry till the onion is brown. Now add water and a teaspoon of jowar flour and stir well. Add salt and wait till it starts to boil. Now add jowar flour slowly, stir with a flat ladle. Turn the flame to low level. Take a churner (ಕಡಗೋಲು) and churn the mixture to avoid lumps. Now add lemon juice, stir well, close with a lid and keep on low flame for 3-5 minutes. Now the mudde uppittu is ready to eat. Serve hot with a spoonful of ghee and pickle in the side (preferably ಮಿಡಿ ಉಪ್ಪಿನಕಾಯಿ ರಸ)
Please Note: Prepare this on the day when all of you can sit together to eat. It tastes good when it is hot and semi solid. However, If it gets cold eat with curds.

Meera, Thanks for posting the recipe.
This is a diabetic-friendly dish ( of course, with half of the oil I mentioned and no ghee on the top) and I hope this will help those who are in search of non-rice recipes.
