Ugadi – Jaya Nama Samvatsara(ಜಯ ನಾಮ ಸಂವತ್ಸರ) – March 31st 2014

The new year for all Hindus starts from March 31st 2014. This year it is Jaya Nama Samvatsara(ಜಯ ನಾಮ ಸಂವತ್ಸರ).

Panchangas for Uttaradi Math is available online. I have downloaded the Sanskrit one already. A hard copy was also given to me by my Dad when I visited India last week.

Free Uttaradi Math Calendar 2014-2015 in PDF available here:

P.S: Thanks a million to the webmaster at Uttaradi Math for these downloads. It greatly helps each and every one in following our customs and traditions.

During Ugadi, the leaves of neem also called Bevu ಬೇವು is mixed with jaggery called Bella ಬೆಲ್ಲ; and is distributed on the occasion. Neem, which is extremely bitter in taste( Kahi) , and jaggery which is sweet and delicious, signify the two different aspects of human life – joy and sorrow.

Authentic Madhwa Recipes page posted on the right hand side has several recipes you can prepare:

P.S: As always no food is prepared with onion or garlic.
You can find some amazingly good greetings in Kannada, at the following link

And here is the lyrics for the famous song by Shri Bendre, which we used to hear on major radio channels, Yuga Yugadi Kaledaru:

yuga yugAdi kaLedarU yugAdi maraLi barutide

  1. Hello Meera avare,

I attempted to write some management topics in kannada which are in my blog site. Not sure if they are readable / graspable easily. Can you take a look and give your opinion? The blog I am referring is:

    https://nageshamysore.wordpress.com/%e0%b2%a4%e0%b3%8a%e0%b2%a1%e0%b2%95%e0%b3%81%e0%b2%97%e0%b2%b3%e0%b2%a8%e0%b3%81-%e0%b2%ac%e0%b2%bf%e0%b2%a1%e0%b2%bf%e0%b2%b8%e0%b2%b2%e0%b3%81-%e0%b2%a4%e0%b3%8a%e0%b2%a1%e0%b2%95%e0%b2%bf/

If you could give your feedback, it would be great, I can attempt few more technical topic in Kannada.

    Thanks,
    Nagesha from Singapore

    Hi Meera avre,
What is “Jaya Nama samvatsara”? I tried googling but all I could get is that it is the name of this year (?). I could not get much info. Can you share info/details about what it is and how do the names originate, pehaps, in your next blog article for newbies like me? It will be interesting to read. Thanks!
