ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ, Greetings. My name is Meera Subbarao(ಮೀರಾ ಸುಬ್ಬರಾವ್ ) and I am working as a Senior Software Consultant. My hobbies include cooking, singing and reading books; and above all knowing more and more about our Hindu Religion, Madhwa to be specific. And of course blogging. I live in Burtonsville, Maryland, USA.
I am a great devotee of Sri Raghavendra Swamigalu; ಶ್ರೀ ರಾಘವೇಂದ್ರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಗಳು also very popularly known as Rayaru; ರಾಯರು. This blog has been up and running from September 2007, with 300 posts, hundreds of lyrics and more than 400,000 visitors. Many of whom contribute regularly with lyrics, links to other web sites and also comments.
I also write technical articles, tutorials, book reviews at Javalobby and IT Book Zone, and my personal blog as well about work related stuff. You might find something useful there as well if you are a Software Developer.
I have been using a free software called Baraha to write Kannada in English and using the normal keyboard. Within just a few minutes after you download the software you are ready to start using the program. It’s so fun and easy to use. If you are having problems using this software, just add a comment here, I will be glad to help you.
A big Thanks to all of you who have taken time to share their comments. ತುಂಬ ಧನ್ಯವಾದಗಳು.

I am interested to bring out a small booklet about Sri Raghavendra Swamis Brindavanas that are existing in India and if possible world over. The intentions are that pilgrims who want to reach there should have more details of the route, nearest Rail heads/Bus station, timings of mutt opening, sevas conducted, telephone numbers etc.
Can U help if you have a list with you?
Posted by meeraghu on March 12, 2008 at 5:14 pm
Hi vasu,
I don’t have any list as such. But, let me know what details you need, I will be glad to help.
Posted by Vasu Murari on March 13, 2008 at 7:44 pm
Hi Meera,
Thanks for your prompt and immediate response. My needs are as follows:
Take for instance Chennai City. How many Brindavanas are Mritika brindavanas. their location, address, telephone nos. when it was consercated and by whom, the name of the Trust/individual to whom donation or other financial assistance to be sent etc. The booklet to be brought out should contain only authentic informations and not any vague ones and hence this frantic search. Even if takes some time it does not matter much for me.
Expecting your help and thanks

Would you have the recipe of ‘authentic’ Bisibelebath? I have tried zillion versions of it, but everytime it turns out like sambar rice but not ‘the’ bisibelebath. I guess the heart of it is in the bisibelebath powder.
Eagerly waiting for your inputs.

Congratulations, Meera, on your fantastic and most interesting blog including authentic Madhwa recipes and interesting details about Hindu culture. It shows real love for what you are doing.
I know about Baraha and have downloaded it to my computer. Could you please instruct me on how to go about using it for rendering lyrics in English, Hindi, Kannada and other Indian languages?
Could you write about how they prepare the saar in Sri Raghavendraswamy Mutt?

Hi Meera,
Thanks for you response. I need your help. I have done Mangala Gowri pooja, this shravana masa. As yesterday was the last tuesday of this month i did the pooja as i had done the previous tuesdays. But this time i followed a different method making the tambittu deepa, and it turned out to be a disaster. I made them by frying the besan with jaggery and some ghee. After i lit all the deepas it burnt the whole tambittu in minutes and my carpet flooring also got burnt. I am too dissappointed since this happened during the pooja. Is there anything i can do to seek forgiveness from goddess.
Posted by meeraghu on August 27, 2008 at 11:39 am
Hi Supradha,
It was an accident, so don’t worry too much about the same. You did the pooje which is very important. A small doubt though? Why did you not place the tambittu in a silver plate and do the Aarathi?
Anyway, keep an open mind. God always forgives his devotees.

Thanks a lot for Thoogire Rayara Lyrics. Right from my childhood i wanted to learn this song and sing it to Raghavendra Swamiji. I always told my mother to mail me this song in English. But somehow i never got it from her. And one day i told Swami i really want to learn this song and started to search on internet. And i was so surprised to see your webpage and that to with the song and also with lyrics. This is possible by only God Raghavendra Swamiji. I got too emotional seeing the song and listening to the song. And now i have learnt the song and singing it to Raghavendra Swamiji. So i wanted to thank you million times for this. You are really close to god. That is why you are helping so many people like me. Thank you and i will keep looking at your page and try to learn more good good songs of God. Thank you so much.

Another question, Is their any specific pooja or decoration to be performed at house on Sankranthi.
I don’t remember my parents doing anything special. The main thing was preparing the Yellu or Sesame seeds as it is called(Yellu Berodu). And giving it to as many people as possible.

I was searching for “Poojipene Ninna” and stumbled upon your blog ! I spent the entire afternoon reading through your blog..Excellent blog and it is good to see all all recipes and other stuff regarding festivals keep up the good work !
Very happy to listen to Aaruthi belagire and Poojipene Ninna…Actually I was planning to learn these songs as I have heard this many times during poojas in india from my mother in law, granny and my mother.
It would be greatfull if some one can post audio of nithya prarthana (small book containing small shlokas for everyday prayer day-wise). I have the hard copy brought from india, but do not know to sing them properly. It would be great if some body good at that will say the shlokas and record it. Every body even children will benefit.
I can scan the book and send it.
Hi Shilpa,
Thanks for taking time to browse the blog and also for your comments. Sure, send me the scanned doc. My Sister and I will try to record the same and post it in youtube. Thanks again.

This site is quite super – and my mouth is watering at the thought of the dishes you’ve talked about!
I live in Bangalore, India, and I SHOULD not be asking you for this, but would you have the lyrics of the song Devaki Kanda Mukunda, a Purandara dasa devaranama?
Thanks!

Hi Sarayu,
Thanks for your comments. I am not sure I know that song, but I will check and see.
Posted by Anu on April 29, 2009 at 10:43 pm
Dear Meera,
I think Sarayu is referring to “Jo Jo Krishna Paramananda “” .I have listened to my family members in India singing this devaranama. The second line of this song is also sung as “Jo Jo Devaki KandaMukunda”.I used to sing this deveranama when my son Prajwal was born. I learnt it from Sona Ajji (my Husband’s Ajji).
Thanks
Anu

Hello Meera,
I have been a regular follower of your blog and enjoy the receipes you have posted.
I have also got lyrics of most of the songs I wanted on your blog. Thanks for that.
Could you please post meaning of “Lakshmi Shobhan”? Do you know if “Lakshmi Shobhan” is available in Marathi / Hindi ?
Posted by meeraghu on May 26, 2009 at 9:04 am
Hi Aparna,
I don’t have the meaning. Also, the lyrics I have just in Kannada.
If I find lyrics in Marathi/Hindi I will post them.
Thanks for your comments.

Hi Meera:
I am a Maharastrian Deshastha Brahmin working in Chicago. After going through your blog, I felt so much at home that I keep visiting your blog over and over again. My ajji (grand-mom in marathi) was from jamkhindi in N.Karanataka. I always feel that Marathi Deshastha Brahmins and Madhwas share same cultural heritage…maybe they are just called differently in the 2 states…So keep writing and wish you the best of luck. I look forward to reading more about this shared heritage..maybe you’ve more knowledge about it.
Thanks,
Alok
thanks, Alok. I do remember some of my relatives on my Grandmothers side saying they were Deshastha Brahmins. They did speak marathi as well. When we were in Bijapur, we had been to Jamkhindi many times.
I am glad you liked the web site. And thanks so much for your comments.

Hi,
This kind of blog is exactly what I wanted to create and started with http://harivaayu.blogspot.com but for some reason I could not post any lately.
I have been silently following and admiring your blog for the last one year. I am indeed very happy to see your blog on Madhwa tradition. Thank you so much. I am a madhwa from tamil nadu who don’t know kannada script. It would be great if you can email me the ‘varava kode thayi’ song in english when you find time.
Thanks again. Please continue to post and May Raayaru shower His choicest blessings on you and your family.
Regards,
Mythreyee.
Hi Mythreyee. Thanks so much for your nice comments. I sure will send you the lyrics in English.

Hi Meera,
I just read on your Java Blog that these days you feel tired etc. Meera i feel you as great when i see the kind of Job you are doing. It is impossible for a normal person to do so much of work at a time. I feel you as a perfect woman. I just feel you are blessed child of Raghavendra Swamiji. You are helping so many people, You know because of your website i have learnt 3 Raghavendra Swamiji songs which i chat almost everyday. When i read you feel tired and all, i felt very sad. But please Meera do the great job whatever you are doing, don’t ever discontinue. Have faith in God Raghavendra Swamiji he will help you in all the ways. Like i have said you are blessed by Raghavendra Swamiji, so everything will be fine soon. Now i am learning Pahi Pahi song. Your audio video is helping me a lot as i do not know Kannada writing and reading , i can only speak. So i am learning the song by listening and i have taken print out of the song and i am trying to learn. Thank you so much Meera. I look at you as my elder sister. Thank you so much for all the good work.
Rajasree
Hi Rajasree, your comment and kind words are so much appreciated. Yes, I am a great devotee of Shri Raghavendra Swamiji, there isn’t a day I don’t say his name a million times. As you read in my other blog, all this might be because of the stress and strain of traveling and work. I hope to write many many posts and also work more on this blog.
I am so glad you were able to learn the songs and are able to recite it also everyday. Makes me feel so happy. Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts.
I am honored to know that you consider me as your elder sister. Thanks again so much. Appreciate every word of yours.

Namaskara Meera avare,
Would it be possible for you to post the Ganesha Chaturthi pooja vidhana ? This is the first time we (my husband and I) willbe performing this(keeping the ganesha idol, pooja, visarjane etc), so, I will appreciate any help/ advise from you.
Read in one of your last year comments that the text is too much to translate to English. If it is in Kannada/Devnagari, that is great too. I hope I am not asking for too much. Please post only if possible/time permits.
Regards,
Mrinalini.
Hi Mrinalini, I will try to scan the book and post the same. Let me see how it works out.

Hello Meera,
My name is shruthi Kulkarni and I live in Bristol,U.K.
Very useful website.I also love ur recipee. One thing….can u post Jestha gowri puja dates on the website. It comes during the Ganesha festival.I do it 3 days.Shukravarad gowri and Jestha gowri get to meet …so gowri stays for a long period.Lots of sacred thread 8,9,7,6,16 knots are made and put in a silver tambige and puja is performed on that day.the second day both gowri(shukravarda and jestha) puja is done and on the third day u wear the thread.I dont know if u r aware because not all madhwa family have this parampara.
Hi Shruthi, The festival is there on my Mother’s side, but not in my in-laws place. So, I have no clue about this.

Hello Meera avare…
I am Sarita from Bangalore. I was AMAZED and EXCITED to come across your blog. I have been trying to persuade my mother and aunty to write down all the Madhwa puja rituals, recipes, etc for quite some time but somehow it hasn’t happened. I believe that if we do not archive these traditions, festivals, recipes, the biggest losers will be our children, because as it is I know only about 10-20% of what my Grandma knew. What you are doing is a BIG blessing for all ..especially Madhwas.
I wanted the lyrics of the song “Thaaye Sharadhe, thoro karuneya………….needemage vidya bhaagyavaa” I really would be grateful if you send me this. Thanks a lot again.
Hi Sarita Avare, Thanks so much for your wonderful comments. I will try finding the lyrics for the song you have requested and will post if I get them.

Meera Avare … Namaskara…
Thank you… I am glad that you are an ardent devotee of “Raayaru” also. I am proud to tell you that the Malleswaram (Bangalore) Madhwa Sangha in the Raayara Matha premises was established by my father-in-law’s father Late Sri Gundu Rao in the 1960s.
I am also extremely blessed to have “Raayara krupe” on my family. I visit Mantraalaya every chance I get. Standing in front of Raayara Brundavana brings extreme peace to my soul. I was very fortunate to have received blessings of the Late Swamiji Sushameendra Theertharu several times in the past few years.
Looking forward to the lyrics of “Thaaye Sharadhe” from you.
God Bless You and Your Loved Ones for your wonderful contribution to society…
Warm Regards,
Sarita
Thanks Sarita for sharing your story.

Your website is very informative and makes me feel proud to see an exclusive website for Madhwas itself. It is also so astonishing that we in Bangalore get so much of information related to Madhwa Shastra, our relegion, culture from a person who’s posting all this from US. I’m sure you must have heard about Sonda(Sri Vyasrajara Brindavan) near Sirsi. Visit this place sometime during your visit. It’s a beautiful place.
Looking forward for more information and activities on this website.
