The LINGASHATAM,slogam, I am used to chant during evening time after lighting kuthuvilaku in front of god (i.e. between 5.30 to 6.30) and I am used to go to temple
for Pradhashoam, that time we would sing all sivan slogam in group song.
Pradhashoam comes(2 times) every 15th of before full moon and new moon(i.e. thiryodhasa dhidi).Sani Pradhasoham comes on Feb 24th, this prodhosham is very significant
to the devotees, those who visit/worship Sivan Temple, they will get virtue for 5 years.
If we simply say ‘OM NAMASIVAYA” during Prothosam time, we will get blessed by God.
Om Siva Namaga

Dear Meera,
Its really nice to see various people asking for the same stotras/shlokas in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malyalam. By keeping the divine in focus – you are bringing people from different language groups together. Maybe you are not doing it consciously – but it is neverthless happening. This is such a good thing. This is a beautiful integration of minds – where people are able to reach to the divine – beyond the identities of language. May Shri Guru Raghavendra bless you.

Lingastakam should not be chanted by madhwas, because the first lines itself tells that shiva is greater than brahma and vishnu which is against madhwas.

Respected Madam
One thing I would like to inform you, you are dedicated your blog to Sri Raghavendra Swamygalu mathu avra antharyami Sri Mukya prana devaru, These two great Gods taken avthara in kaliyuga to distroy the doubts in the minds of sadhakas through Dwaitha Siddantha.
Please donot consider Madhvas are conservatives. as I learnt this lingastaka should not chant by Vaishnavas since it is composed by Shankaracharya.
For more clarification kindly consult the learned Pandits of Madhva community.
With regards
S.Bhimasenarao

VISHNU SAHASRA NAMAM. I ENCHANT LALITHA SAHASRA NAMAM TOO !
KINDLY ERADICATE SUCH IMPRESSION THAT VAISHNAVs SHOULD NOT ENCHANT SHIV SLOKAs.

Thanks for the lyrics of this divine song…….. But if I can point out in this stanza :
“Suraguru Suravara Poojitha Lingam
Suravana Pushpa Sadarchitha Lingam
Paraath Param Paramatmaka Lingam
Tatpranamaami Sadaashiva Lingam”
it should be ‘Parama’ rather than Paraath
Good job, keep it up.
Cheers – Rajesh !!

No….it is Paraath Param only as Ms. Meera has rightly typed……(it means Ultimate of the ultimate).

HELP!! I have just returned from India and a friend was playing the Lingastakham sung by SP Balasubramaniam – which I love. He said it was on a dvd and actually had about 2.5 hours of songs on it. Can someone tell me what dvd it may have been and where I can buy it? I have an Apple Mac and cannot access any of the links I can find on the web site. Thank you. David

I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is honored by Brahma, Murari and Indra, Which is adorned and resplendent by clear light, and Which destroys the grief born out of the birth.||1||
I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is honored by demi-gods and the best sages, Which destroys the fear of Kamadeva or desires, Which is the abode of compassion, and Which destroyed the pride of the demon Ravana.||2||
I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is applied and covered by a fragrant paste, Which is the reason for the increment of wisdom in persons, and Which has been extolled by siddha, demi-gods and demons alike.||3||
I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is adorned with gold and grand precious jewels, Which is surrounded and adorned by a garland of the king of snakes (Naga), and Which destroyed the grand sacrifice of Daksa Prajapati in the old times.||4||
I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is applied by a paste of sandalwood and kumkuma, Which is adorned by a garland of lotuses, and Which destroys the accumulated sins of living beings.||5||
I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is honoured by demi-gods and the Gana of Siva, possessed with devotional emotions, and Which is resplendent with light like millions of sun.||6||
I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is surrounded by flowers having eight-petals, Which is the reason behind the birth of everything, and Which destroys the eight types of poverty.||7||
I continuously bow to that Linga of Siva, Which is revered by demi-gods, preceptors and Indra, Which is offered wild-flowers, from forests, by the demi-gods, Which is beyond everything, and Which is like the Paramatman.||8||
this is the meaning of lingashtakam
this is the lyrics of Bilvashakam
Tridalam triguNaakaaram trinetram cha triyaayudham
trijanma paapasamhaaram eka Bilvam shivaarpaNam
I offer the bilva patra to Shiva. This leaf embodies the three qualities of sattva, rajas and tamas. This leaf is like the three eyes, and the sun, moon and fire. It is like three weapons. It is the destroyer of sins committed in three earlier births. I perform pooja for Shiva with the bilva patra.
Akhanda bilvapatreNa poojite nandikeshware
shudhyantii sarva paapebhyo eka bilvam shivaarpaNam
I offer the bilva patra to Shiva. This leaf is soft and free of blemish. It is complete in itself. It is like three branches. I perform pooja for Shiva with the bilva patra.
Shaaligram shilaama ekaam vipraaNaam jaatu charpayet
somayadnya mahaapuNyam eka bilvam shivaarpaNam
I offer the bilva patra to Shiva. I complete the pooja for Nandikeshwara by the bilva patra to him, and thus become free of sin
DantikotisahasraNi vajape shataanicha
kotikanyaa mahaadaanam eka bilvam shivaarpaNam
The offering of Bilva is greater in power than yagnas and sacrifices.
Laxmyaa stnam unpanam mahadevasya cha priyam
bilva vruksham prayachchhaami eka bilvam shivaarpaNam
The bilva tree was created by Goddess Lakshmi. Lord Shiva has great affection for the bilva tree. I perform pooja for Shiva with the bilva patra.
Darshanam bilva vrukshasya sparshanam paapanaashanam
aghorapaapa samhaaram eka bilvam shivaarpaNam
Beholding the bilva and coming in contact with it destroys all sin. I perform pooja for Shiva with the bilva patra.
Kashi kshetra nivasam cha kalabhairava darshanam
Prayaage maadhavam drushtvaa Ekabilvam shivaarpanam
I offer one leaf of the bilva to Shiva, after being in the city of Kashi, beholding Kala Bhairava, and visiting the temple of Madhava
Moolato brahma roopaaya madhyato Vishnu roopiNe
agrataha shiva roopaaya eka bilvam shivaarpaNam
The lower part of bilva is Brahma, the middle is Vishnu and the upper is Shiva himself. I perform pooja for Shiva with the bilva patra.
I am only a third grader
thank you
