Yes, my Mom and my Grandmother used to sing this when my Daughter was born. They also used to sing this during Shri Krishnastami, and that’s why I decided to add this on the occassion of Lord Krishna’s B-Day.

My mother used to sing this song for me and my brother when we were kids. And Krishnashtami is a major celebrations in our home in Mlore with bhajans and midnight pooja, argya and phalara in the early hours.

This year, however, I am far away in London without access to many of these things. I was desperately searching for this song because I wanted to sing this song for Krishna and my to-be-born baby. I am so glad i found it here!

    Thanks a lot!!!

Can some one kindly send me the translation / meaning in English. Really appreciate if you can.

I sing this to my baby in the purest lullaby form (i.e not in the bhajan style). I learnt it from the temple priest who used to sing it daily at end of the day pooja/aarathi/cradle swing to lord krishna. I will sing it and upload it and send you the URL later.

    Hari Bol,

Nice blog, you have given links to some good SriKrishna Kirtans. Thank You.!! However may I make one humble suggestion..rather request for a serious correction my friend…. Please try to avoid the usage of the word Mythology, as these things are not MITHYA. (another sanskrit word for ‘false’)..actually it is Hindu Sathyology!!..

    Hi Meera,

Thanks a lot for the lyrics…the Englihsh version.I am a Malayalee and so have no idea about kanada language. But once i heard one of my bangalore friend singing this lullaby to her son and i liked it a lot.She got me the song but i desperately wanted the lyrics..which i got it now.The most important thing is my daughter loves this song. She is just one year old and when ever she listens to this song she just stops,as if some one has applied brakes and concentrates on the song..its very difficult to distract her at that time…Now i sing it for her n she just loves it.Thanks a lot…

That’s so nice, Soumya. Glad you shared the same. Thanks so much.

    My Namaskaras to you Meera-madam,

Thanks for all the wonderful lyrics you have been posting here. I remember my Grandmother singing a lullaby, which went like “Laali Brahmadigalu Ksheera saagarake pogi, muddu Sri Krishna…” It was a very melodious tune and the lyrics were in praise of Sri Krishna, if i remember correctly. Have you heard of it and do you have the complete lyrics ?

    Thanks.

I have translated the lyrics into English as follows:

Jo Jo Sri Krishna! (Bringer) of eternal bliss
Jo Jo Darling baby of the cowherd lady (Yashoda)
    Mukunda, Jo Jo

You sleep in the ocean of milk
Baby, you lie on the banyan leaf
    You, darling of Lakshmi’s heart
Child! I will sing Jo Jo as I push the swing

In the cradle made of sparkling gems
Holding the chain of shiny red beads
Play without crying , my dear boy
Lotus-navel! I will sing Jo Jo as I push the swing

Whose child are you? Whose treasure are you?
    Whose precious gem are you?
Deeming that I gained a Chintamani (philosopher’s stone)
Urchin! I will sing Jo Jo as I push the swing

Treasure of Virtue! If I keep carrying you
Who is going to do the household chores?
    Go to peaceful sleep quickly
Serpent-couch! I will sing Jo Jo as I push the swing

You whose vehicle is a bird! You of infinite greatness!
    Lotus eyed and supremely sacred
The greatest god of all the hordes of gods
    Panduranga, Purandara Vithala, Jo Jo
