VataSavithri Pooja Sloka

June 7th is VataSavithri Hunnime or Purnima.  The Madhwa Panchanga has the following sloka and a brief description of what needs to be done on this day.

To quote ” On this day, married woman should perform Pooja to Savithri for a long and happy married life and say the following prayer. The prayer below is in English and Kannada. The English version can be copied and pasted into Baraha to translate into any other regional Indian Language it supports.

    I am also a Madhwa Bhramin born and raised in Mumbai.We are followers of the Sri Uttaradi Matha for a very long time.My family has been closely associated with the matha for 2 generations now.We the 3rd Gen. pray that we are able to follow the foot-steps of our grand-parents- n parents..
    I have been following your website for past few months.And i have to thank you for making all the small informations available.

    I didn’t see any such fasting in our Madhwa Calendar. You can fast, if you feel so.

    I was just browsing the web for panchang and found a site http://www.mypanchang.com/ where it said to celebrate VataSavithri pooja and fasting on the 6th on June. what do you say ?

    Giving Haldi & Kumkum alongwith Thambula, coconut, fruits of the season is done always for all festivals.

    Thanks for the information. I remember my mother telling that it is auspicious to give maavinahannu with arasina kumkuma to married women after doing pooja on this day.May be it is a custom in our family.
