Prayer to Recite while Traveling

My father thought us the following prayers when we were kids. He also taught this prayer to my Daughter and my Nieces. So, as soon as we sit in the car, the girls in one loud and clear voice start saying this prayer.  The Madhwa Calendar from the last two years has many many prayers and had these slokas as well.  The first one below is to be said while you are going out of your home, and the second one during your travel. Take a printout and keep a copy in your car.

As always the prayer has been added below in English and Kannada. The English one can be copied and pasted into Baraha to translate to your own regional language.

    Hi Meera,
Suma had given me the words for the above. There are a few words which were different from what you have on your blog. Just wanted to make sure if I had written down correctly.
    ಆಸ್ತಾಂ – I have ರಾಸ್ತಾಂ
    ಸಶರೌ- I have ಶಶಾರೋ
    ರಮ ಲಕ್ಷಣ- I have ರಾಮ ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮಣ
Can you please let me know which is correct?
    Thanks Lalitha

Aunty, The only mistake in mine is that I spelled Rama incorrectly. Other than that, everything is as is from the panchanga. I have corrected the same. So, I guess it is the correct version.

This is really very powerful and effective prayer!

  4. We can say these lines from “Vishnu Sakasranam”. “Vanamali gathi Sarangi, Sangu
Sakara Nandhaki, Sriman Narayano Vishnur Vasudeva pirashadhu.(3 times)
In Vishu Sakastrna you can find these lines (108 Lines)By telling these lines, we won’t
find any difficulties in our journey/travel.

    Thank you

“Vana Mali Gadhi Shãnkhii Shanki Chakri Chanandhaki
Shreeman Narayano Vishnur Vãsudevobhi rakshathu” 108 (Repeat Three Times)

This is the sloka we find in most of the Vishnu Sahasranama books. Chanting this in any way helps us feel peaceful. Thanks. Lalitha
