    Hello Meera,
Great job on the blog. I just wanted to mention that Bhaja Govindam lyrics that you have put up is just what MS sang. Actual Bhaja govindam is much longer than this and has very meaningful beautiful lyrics.

Yes, I knew that when I read the Wikipedia article. That’s why I provided the link on the page as well.

  3. I just cry everytime I listen to this song. No other song moves me as much as this one. The magical and devine voice of MS amma. What a treasure she has been for carnatic music.

Thanks for posting her youtube video.

    Hi all,

I have been searching for Bhaja Govindam lyrics and I found this thread. I feel these lyrics are different from what MS garu sang. So we have a complete new set of stanzas from the actual Bhaja Govindam Song, except for one or two stanzas. It really has the facts of life and takes one into ‘Adhyatmika Chintana’

Meera: I had no clue about that.

    Hi All,

Bhaja Govindam is very long slogam (or song) and not all singers sing the whole thing at a time usually.

It is very much correct that one should understand and follow the meaning of this song.
Can anyone give the link to the complete version in Sanskrit and English translation. Or the Version sung by MSS again the lyrics in Sanskrit with Devnagri script and English Translation

came across this blog while hunting for lyrics for bhaja govindam

    gr8 work…appreciate ur efforts

can u suggest some shlokas to be sung during 9 days of navratri and also different neivedyams to be performed on all 9 days..????

  9. Ma’am, great work by you. Many thanks.
I am told that the version which MS sang was shortened to suit the recording requirements, and it has the approval of Paramacharya Sri Sri Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swami. Pl don’t miss the fact that an introduction to it was recorded by Rajaji, who is another great scholar.
Sankara is Sankara. I bow in reverence to the greatest of sages.

adi shankaracharya sung this on a rare occasion. he saw an old man trying in futility to educate himself, while he himself was at the fag end of his life. when adi shankaracharya enquired of his objective, the old man replied that there is no life unless he educates himself and pursues worldly materialistic objectives. that is when jagadguru replied saying one should look towards the god almighty. at that time, he was travelling with his entourage of fourteen shishyas, each one contributed one shloka. then the jagadguru recited twelve shlokas by himself, and then concluded the great work by a concluding verse. that is how the complete bhaja govindam has twenty seven shlokas. you may also find it interesting that one shloka of bhaja govindam is actually adopted as the corporate mission statement of tirumala tirupati devasthanam.

please do modify them if possible..
as i found.. “punarabhi”…it is”punarapi” and “jahare”, it is actually “jathare”…

Thank you for sharing such a great stotra by jagadguru aadi sankaracharya…

Bhaja Govindam is the way to live which was shown to all of us by Shri Adi Shankaracharya, it is the best way to understand how one should act/perform in this kali yuga…

Its just fantasic and I totally agree with all your comments… Just to updated many of you might already knew there are 30 slokas in Bhaja Govindam and as correctly mentioned above only few of them are sung by MS Subbalaxmi Garu and also by many other singers…

God bless you all and request each and every one to spread Bhaja Govindam to all your friend and relatives so that every one would know the importance of life and Bhakthi.
