Boondi Raita

BoondiRaita

Anytime I prepare parotas, chapathi, vegetable bath, bisibele bath or any rice dish I prepare Boondi Raita. Especially, if it is during functions when you have already cut, peeled and chopped several vegetables, preparing boondi raita is one quick and easy dish with no chopping at all.

I prepare it a lot at home when my daughter is around. My nieces also love this raita.

Simple ingredients and a very simple preparation. I use store bought plain boondi.

Preparation:

  • In a bowl, beat 3 cups of yogurt. I use store bought yogurt.
  • Add salt to taste, crushed black pepper, and a pinch of red chilli powder.
  • Add finely chopped coriander leaves.
  • When ready to serve, add boondi and mix well.
  • Serve with any rice dish or any parota also.

Green Chillies (kaddi menainakayi) Pickle – ಕಡ್ಡಿ ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ ಉಪ್ಪಿನಕಾಯಿ

Another recipe from Ms. Bhavana Damle.

Green chillies pickle

These chillies may not be available everywhere. So, you can use any type of less hot but sleek chillies.

Ingredients:

  • ½ kg Green Chillies (kaddi menainakayi)
  • 5 -6 fresh lemons
  • 1 tea spoon Methi
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard
  • 2-3 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 table spoon oil, 1 teaspoon mustard, ½ teaspoon turmeric, a pinch of Hing powder – for seasoning

Method:

  • Wipe the chillies with a soft cloth. Cut them into pieces of 1 inch.
  • Add salt and lemon juice, stir well and keep them for a day.
  • Roast the Methi (till brown) and mustard separately and powder them.
  • Add the powder and seasoning to the chillies, stir well.
  • Fill it in a tight lid bottle and keep in the refrigerator.
  • You can also add a tablespoon of grated ginger to this  (while adding salt and lemon)

This pickle can be relished with Rotti, Talipittu, Uppittu, Curd rice …etc.
