Green Peas Potato Paratha

It was a 4 day weekend here for us, with thanksgiving and day off after thanksgiving as well. I took a day off on Wednesday also. Much needed rest. Our Daughter Sneha came home for Thanksgiving, and it was a fun 4 days we spent. I made lots and lots of food over the past few days. From rice, rasam , palya, and samabar to brown rice bisibele bath, Sweet and Khara Pongal, Raita, Capsicum and Cucumber Gojju, Upma, Poori Channa, Idli, Vada and Sambar and last but not the least Green Peas Potato Paratha. It was too much cooking and cleaning, however no complaints. I love cooking right?

Just an update: My Husband reminded me that we also made Puliyogre, Raita, Pani Puri, and Bhel Puri. We ate all varieties in the last 5 days. Just can’t believe how many pounds we might have gained.

I can’t explain the happiness on my daughters face when she saw this plate meals. Worth all the effort.

IMG_0700[1]For Thanksgiving night dinner, my Daughter prepared a special all American meal. It was spicy corn bread, Salad, Sweet Potato and Potato Fries, Apple Crisp, and some Mexican tortilla. I will post some of these recipes as well.

She left today on Saturday to avoid traffic tomorrow, and the house is all empty. And this was the time for me to get back to my laptop as well. We already miss her.

Sneha loves all kinds of Paratha, and I decided to pack her a few of them so she can eat them the next few days. Quite healthy, and easy also to make.

Ingredients for the Stuffing:

  • 1/2 cup peas – frozen or fresh
  • 1 potato – boiled and cubed
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • Red Chilli Powder for taste
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 tsp Kasuri Methi (Optional)
  • Chapathi Dough ( You all know the recipe for Chapathi dough right?)

  • Cook the peas
  • Boil the potatoes and mash them
  • In a pan, add 1/2 tsp oil. When it is hot, add cumin seeds
  • Add the peas, potatoes and cook for a few minutes
  • Next, add salt and red chilli powder
  • Also add Kasuri Methi by crushing them within your palm
  • Add coriander leaves – I skipped this step
  • Once the mixture is cold enough, make small balls from them
  • Take a small ball of chapathi dough and stuff and roll them
  • Cook each Paratha on a pan with some oil
  • Serve hot with raita

Visit to Guatemala

I visited Guatemala last week for work. I was in this country for 4 days and had a chance to take a taxi ride and see the City for nearly 4 hours. Guatemala – means Land of Trees. And yes, it is indeed a Land of Trees. The city is covered entirely with mountains, and it has three active volcanoes.

I took some pictures of the city. Take a look.

I also visited the fruit and vegetable market.

Clean roads, tall buildings and the city getting ready for Christmas.

The court and the state house.

The hotel where I stayed in Guatemala City.

The airport.

Guatemala is a meat eating place. People didn’t even know what vegetarian means. It was hard to explain in English what I needed since it is a Spanish speaking country. Anyway, I tried to eat as little as possible, and it was mostly salad, bread, soup.

Even though it was a short trip, I enjoyed the place. The people are amazing and very nice. If you get a chance, definitely visit Guatemala.

Visit to Sri Kamadhenu Kshetra at Bangalore

During my visit to Bangalore in October, I had the opportunity to visit Sri Kamadhenu Kshetra as well. My co-sister Mrs. Vasanthi and her sister Mrs. Vidya are regular visitors to the temple. Mrs.Vidya is related to Sri. Gurushesha, the founder of the temple.

It was on October 22nd that we visited the temple. The temple is still under construction. The founder spent quite a lot of time with all of us, and told us many many miracles which had happened in the temple and for many devotees. It is amazing to see how our beloved Rayaru is blessing one and all. Like his name, Rayaru has no bar for caste, color or creed. He needs just our sincere devotion.

So, attached below are the pictures of my visit to Sri Kamadhenu Kshetra.

Entrance to the temple.

An Article on Sri ShyamaSundara Vittaladasaru :

Visit to Bichchale or Bichali

Bichchale or Bichali or Bhikshaalaya is the place where Guru Raghavendra Swamy’s greatest devotee Sri Appanacharya lived. It is here that  Guru Raghavendra Swamy stayed with Sri Appanacharya for 13 years. Bichchale is situated in the district of Raichur, Karnataka. Bhikshaalaya is on the bank of Tungabhadra River.

Another look at the River Thungabhadra. This is exactly the place where Sri Appanacharyaru jumped into the river and started singing PurnaBhodha stotra the moment he came to know his beloved Rayaru had entered brindavana. The most famous Rayara Stotra.

Like I mentioned, Guru Raghavendra Swamy spent 13 years staying with Sri Appanacharya. The house where Rayaru stayed is in Bichchale as well.

Within the house they have marked a space showing where our beloved Rayaru slept. The house was completely destroyed in 2009 floods.

Next to this room is another room where they have Lord Hanuman installed by Sri Appanacharya. In this room they do have the original picture of Rayaru, which I have posted a long time back.

IMG_2503Like I have mentioned in many many posts, our Rayaru liked Channa Dal Chutney very much. Sri Appanacharya used to prepare channa dal chtuney using this stone grinder called Varalu in Kannada.

IMG_2510You can see a close-up of the same here:

Bichchale is also a very sacred place which was visited by Sree Sripada Rajaru and Sree Vyasa Rajaru. They have idols installed by both of them here. Take a look.

And Lord  Lakshmi Narashima installed by Sree Sripada Rajaru.

IMG_2517And below is the Idol of Lord Prana Devaru- Hanuman by Sree Vyasa Rajaru

There is also an idol installed by Sree Raghavendra Swamy.

There is also the place where our beloved Rayaru did Japa for 13 years.

And finally, we have the Brindavana created by Sri Appanacharya for Sree Raghavendra Swamy.

ಇದೇ ನೋಡಿ ಮಂತ್ರಾಲಯ – IdE Nodi Mantralaya Lyrics

Mrs Bhavana Damle says she was happy to see Mantralaya while staying at home with the pictures posted yesterday. She remembered the song by S.P. Balasubramaniam and shared it with all of us.
