Aradhane of Shri Vijayeendra Teertharu – June 25th 2014

Shri Vijayeendra Teertharu as many of you know is the Guru of Shri Sudheendra theertharu, who in turn is the Guru of our beloved Rayaru. Shri Vijayeendra Teertharu was well versed in 64 Vidyaas.

Shri Vijayeendra Teertharu Aradhane is tomorrow, June 25th 2014.

Many of us recite his name everyday while reciting Rayara Stotra. The 10th Stotra goes as such:

ಸರ್ವತಂತ್ರ ಸ್ವತಂತ್ರೋಸೌ ಶ್ರೀಮಧ್ವಮತವರ್ಧನಃ |

80th Anniversary – Shri Raghavendra Swamy Matha, Seetapati Agrahara- Bangalore

Shri Raghavendra Swamy Matha at Seetapati Agrahara turns 80 years old. We visited this many times almost 20 years back when I stayed in Bangalore. We also performed many functions here during my stay.

ಆಷಾಢ ಮಾಸ – Ashada Masa – June 28th – July 26th 2014

ಆಷಾಢ ಮಾಸ or Ashada Masa starts June 28th and ends on July 26th 2014 in Jaya Nama Samvatsara – ಜಯ ನಾಮ ಸಂವತ್ಸರ
. This entire month is considered inauspicious. Newly wed couple are not allowed to stay in the same house. And in some families I have also seen that Mother-in-Law and Daughter-in-law don’t stay in the same house as well. No idea who or how these beliefs came into existence.

During this month, there are no marriages, upanayanas, or any good deeds performed. However, it is during this month that the Chaturmasa Starts, and the last day of ಆಷಾಢ ಮಾಸ or Ashada Masa is Bhimana Amavasya.More about this festival later in the month.

Some dates in ಆಷಾಢ ಮಾಸ – Ashada Masa:

• July 7th – Chaturmasa Begins
• July 8th – Ekadashi
• July 12th – Poornima – Hunnime
• July 22nd – Ekadashi
• July 26th – Amavasya

Evaporated MilkyWay ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಪಾಯಸ – Vermicelli Kheer

I have already given two variations I use to prepare . The first one is the traditional one, and the second my invention.

• ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಪಾಯಸ – Vermicelli Kheer

Evaporated Milky Way ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಪಾಯಸ – Vermicelli Kheer:

Ingredients:

• 1 cup ಶಾವಿಗೆ – Vermicelli
• 2 Cups 2% Milk
• 1 can evaporated milk
• 1 and 1/2 cup Sugar or to Taste
• Unflavored Oil – Or  Ghee
• 3-4 Cloves, 10-15 sliced Almonds, raisins and crushed cardamom Powder.

Method:

• Fry the cloves, raisins, Almonds and ಶಾವಿಗೆ – Vermicelli in Oil/Ghee until it turns golden brown.  I fry all of them together.
• Now, add 1/2 cup milk and let the ಶಾವಿಗೆ – Vermicelli cook until soft.
• When the ಶಾವಿಗೆ – Vermicelli is completely cooked, add sugar and the 1 can evaporated milk.
• Let it boil until all the sugar is dissolved.
• Finally, add crushed cardamom powder.

The evaporated milk gave the ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಪಾಯಸ – Vermicelli Kheer completely new taste the first time I prepared. Everyone in my family just loved it. I have been preparing it this Way for many months now. If you like experimenting with food, give it a try. It tastes heavenly.

P.S: This serves almost 20 people. I prepared ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಪಾಯಸ – Vermicelli Kheer this weekend for my Daughter Sneha’s graduation party. Everyone asked for the recipe and wanted to know the secret. And now the secret of Meera’s amazing delicious ಶಾವಿಗೆ ಪಾಯಸ – Vermicelli Kheer is out. 🙂
