The Ganesha festival falls on the fourth day Bhadrapada Masa. That’s why we say “Bhadrapada Shulkada Chauthi Aamdu”. Swarna Gouri Vrata and Ganesha Festival is celebrated on August 21st and 22nd. In USA some are doing the festival on 21st itself. So, check your local calendars.

As always, check your closet temple to find the correct dates.

An idol of Gowri made of clay is brought two days before the Ganesha festival. Gowri is an incarnation of Parvathi. Gowri Habba, also called as Swarna Gowri Habba is celebrated one day before Ganesha Festival.

The Legend:

Goddess Gowri, while taking shower, created Ganesha out of the mud of and placed him at the entrance of the house. She told him not to allow anyone to enter while she went inside for a bath. Lord Shiva returned home and was stopped by Ganesha at the gate. Shiva became angry and cut off Ganesha’s head. When Gauri came to know of this she was grieved.

Lord Shiva ordered his servants to cut off and bring to him the head of any creature that might be sleeping with its head facing north. The servants went on their mission and found only an elephant in that position. Lord Shiva then joined the elephant’s head onto the body of Ganesha.

Mr. Lakshmisha P, had left a comment here that he had the pdf files for the Swarnagowri vratha puja & katha. Attached below are the links for both the pdf files he has provided.
Thanks so much Me. Lakshmisha for all the support and also the time you have taken to convert this into pdf.

We used to sing at the top of our voice “Ganesha bhanda, kai kadubu tinda, chikka kerele edda, dodda kereli bidda”.

Lord Ganesha is not just worshiped on this day, but is worshiped first in all occasions since he is considered to be the remover of all obstacles, one who brings good luck on new activities or endeavors.

As always links for several resources songs, lyrics and stotras are posted on this blog.

P.S: If you would like to get email updates on when new articles are added, you can subscribe by clicking on the left hand side on the “RSS Feed“. It will take you to a new page, and you can enter your email ID.

And here comes the link which has colorful and many designs for drawing Rangoli

And can any festival be complete without authentic dishes? Here are some recipes posted in this blog:

bale-yele-oota

In case you see the moon on this day, here is the sloka you are supposed to say:

ಚೌತಿ ಚಂದ್ರ ದರ್ಶನ ಅಪವಾದ ಪರಿಹಾರಕ್ಕಾಗಿ

ಸಿಂಹಃ ಪ್ರಸೇನಮವಧೀತ್
ಸಿಂಹೋ ಜೌ0ಬವತಾ ಹತಃ |
ಸುಕುಮಾರಕ ಮಾರೋದಿಃ
ತವಹ್ಯೇಷ ಸ್ಯ್ಮಮಂತಕಃ ||

Simha prasenamavadith
simho jambhuvatha hathah |
sukumaraka marodhihi
thavahyesha syamanthakaha ||

P.S: The above sloka in Kannada is exactly as it is in the Uttaradi Matta Panchanga. Rather than taking a picture, I typed in the words. The English translation is done from the Kannada sloka to the best of my knowledge.

As always no food is prepared with onion or garlic.

Kosambari Dosa

What do you do when you have almost 2 cups of Kosambari leftover? You can’t throw it away because of all the good ingredients you have in there like Moong dal, Channa dal, coconut, cucumber, green chillies. We had so much food prepared for Shree Krishna Janmasthami that the entire two varieties of Kosambari was untouched.

We do eat Kosambari a lot at my house, but with all the food that we had, no one touched it. So, I remembered once in my in-laws house they had mentioned grinding it and making dosa. I decided to give it a try and it turned out delicious.

Very simple, add all the Kosambari and 2 tsp rice flour to a mixer jar, grind it and make delicious dosas. Since it already had all the ingredients, I didn’t even add salt to it.

Next time you have leftover Kosambari try this recipe.

Serve with chatni or chatni powder.

2020 Shree Krishna Pooja Pictures

Hope you all had a wonderful and joyous Shree Krishna Jayanthi/Janmasthami. The festival was on a Tuesday, so I took a day off.

My daughter joined us this year, so the festival and food items were definitely more special.

My own blog helped in getting all the links for songs, food items and recipes.

Food prepration like you see were items such as:

    • Moong dal Kosambari
    • Channa dal Kosambari
    • Avalakki
    • Sweet Avalakki
    • Mosaru Avalakki
    • Kesari Bath
    • Thengolu
    • Om Pudi
    • Shankar Poli
    • Chakli
    • Rava Laddoo
    • Besan Laddoo

Lots of fruits, coconut, Abhisheka for the lord was also performed.

Missed mom very much, I am sure this year we will miss her for each and every festival. Every time I told her I hadn’t even taken food or water she used to be so upset. She kept saying, at least have milk and fruits.

Some pictures from this year. Prepared three Tulasi Mala for our Lord. Recited the Ashtotra, my Husband did Tulasi archane and daughter did sliver flowers archane. It was nice to have the blog and all the songs in one place.

Next is Gowri and Ganesha festival. Will post all links and recipes as we approach the festival.

May Lord Krishna Bless us all. Jai Shree Krishna!

Shri Krishna Ashtotra – 108 names In Kannada, Sanskrit and Meaning

I have posted the Shri Krishna Ashtotra – 108 names In English here. Recite this tomorrow as you are offering Lord Krishna either Tulasi or flowers or Manthrakshate on a plate. Women usually don’t recite Om, in that case replace Om with Shree.

Shri Krishna Ashtotra – 108 names In English

If you find it tough reciting these 108 names, you can also just say Om Krishnaaya Namaha or Shree Krishnaaya Namaha 108 times.

Just remember our Lord is very forgiving, he needs just our Bhakthi.

Posted below the same in Kannada

From my home. Dad did Saligrama Pooje, Mritika Brindavana Pooje and also Abhisheka. Tied Tulasi Mala for all Rayaru photos from our garden.

I will post pictures I received from other Rayaru temples also soon. It was amazing seeing how grand the celebrations were in all places.

2020 Sree Raghavendra Swamy Poorva Aaradhane Pictures

From Mantralaya – Sree Raghavendra Swamy Poorva Aaradhane Pictures

From my home. It was quite emotional doing Rayaru Seva this year. As you all know Mom was one of the greatest devotee of Rayaru. When I was upset on Rayaru when she was in hospital, she kept telling me “Rayaru Mahanubhavaru, Yake Avara mele kopa Meera”. She came in my dream also and asked me not to be upset on Rayaru and it was time for her to go.

Anyone of us was sick, had trouble, or anything not working according to plan, you could count on Mom to do Rayaru Seva. And she diligently visited 4TH T block Mutta and offered her thanks. Almost every month she used to perform Kanakabhisheka for Rayaru at the mutta. Rain or shine she had to go see Rayaru every Thursday.
Every year, as soon as I performed day 1 Seva, I used to do a video chat and show her my Pooja room. She used to be so happy and always asked me to not overdo, and not restrict food too much. While doing Seva I eat just 1 meal, no coffee, no tea, no fruits, just lunch at noon and nothing else.

This year, all those memories came back as soon as I finished day 1 Pooja. My dad was with me and he did Saligrama Pooje, and Panchamrutha Abhisheka for God and Rayaru. Tulasi and Kanakambara from our own garden. I tied the garland with both Tulasi and Kanakambara.

As my extended family I thought of sharing with you all my thoughts today. I need your blessings and positive thoughts to get strength to bear the loss.

Lets all pray together to Rayaru to cure COVID from this world.

Guru Sarvabhowma Ki Jai.
