An amazing song which I have been learning for the past weeks.

Shree Lakshmi Narashima Maha Mantra

Thought of posting this on the eve of Shree Narashima Jayanthi.

Shree Lakshmi Narashima Maha Mantra
Ugram Veeram Mahaa Vishnum
Jwalantham Sarvatho Mukham
Nrisimham Bheeshanam Bhadram
Mrityu-Mrityum Namaamyaham

And the meaning is I bow down to Lord Narasimha who is ferocious and heroic like Lord Vishnu. He is burning from every side. He is terrific, auspicious and the death of death personified.

Cabbage Chayote Palya

Eating the same food over and over again is sometimes boring. And coming up with new recipes is not easy either.

We had 1/2 cabbage and just 2 chayotes. To be honest, we eat lots of vegetables and I was tired doing the same vegetables or even using the cabbage in Upma or Sambar. So, I decided why not combine both of these vegetables and do a very simple vegetable/Palya on a Thursday.

With less than 4 ingredients, basic seasoning, and less than 15 minutes an amazing palya for Chapathi was ready.

Ingredients:

  1. 1/2 finely chopped cabbage
  2. 2 finely chopped Chayote or semebadanekayi
  3. 3 green chillies sliced
  4. 3-4 tsp grated coconut, and finely chopped cilantro
  5. Oil, mustard seeds, Jeera, and hing for seasoning
  6. Salt to taste

Method:

A. In a microwave I cooked both cabbage and chayote seperately.

B. Heat oil in a pan, when its hot, add mustard seeds, jeera, hing and slit green chillies.

C. Next, add the cooked vegetables and mix everything.

D. Add salt, and grated coconut and finely chopped cilantro.

E. Serve with chapathis.

Our Mysore Ajji

This Akshaya Tadige Ajji completed 105 years. She was sick for the past few months. It was heartbreaking knowing Ajji had left this world. Yes, Ajji left this materialistic world yesterday and joined her Husband, her daughters, her daughter-in-law and many of her extended family and friends.

This picture you are seeing was during my Dad’s 80th Shastiputhi function. The bond between Mom and Daughter is so very well seen in the picture below.

I searched for so many pictures, but none conveyed the message I wanted to about our Ajji and the bond she shared with Mom and in turn us grandkids and great grandkids.

Ajji always laughed when I told her I had written about her in my blog, she would say what have I done to get this much love from you all. She loved when I read out your comments and told her about the blog.

Ajji was fierce, Ajji was a strong role model, Ajji was a fighter.

Ajji was our Iron Lady, and our dearest Mysore Ajji.

With all the challenges Ajji faced, her devotion towards God never wavered and we never heard her complain ever about God.

Ajji was the big banyan tree, we all took shelter under.

Ajji was a great musician, from her we learnt all the songs, all stotras and all slokas.

Ajji was a great role model, who taught each one of us how to fight adversity we face in life.

Ajji was a guru to us, who taught us how to pray and count our blessings.

Ajji was a great cook, and taught me so many amazing madhwa dishes.

Ajji was a mother, grandmother and great grandmother and showed us how to navigate these roles brilliantly.

Ajji was a giver, and showed how each one of us could benefit from doing charity.

Ajji showed us education matters, and even more so how women need to be independent.

Ajji also showed even more than education, how culture matters and how we should be cultured.

Ajji dealt with so many tough challenges, and she taught us how to keep swimming even when we face tough challenges.

Ajji will live with us forever with her songs, the things she taught us and her love.

The family lost a great woman who was the head of our family or in one word a matriarch.

I can still taste the brinjal vangibath, Rubbida huli, Akki tari Upma and Ajji’s favorite Bonda. All I learnt from Ajji’s visit to my parents house or our visit to our Mama’s house.

WE LOVE YOU AJJI. WILL MISS YOU FOREVER.

P.S: The other post I wrote about our Ajji, you can read below:

Veerasimhane Naarasimhane – Narashima Suladi

Having parents who guide you in your day to day activities and push you towards eternal Bhakti is a true blessing. It is a blessing I have such a father and had such a mother.

My father called today and mentioned starting tomorrow which is Vaishakha masa, and until 24th May which is Shree Narashima Jayanthi we need to recite Shree Narashima Suladi composed by Shree Vijaya Dasaru.

There is also a Shree Narashima Suladi composed by Shree Jaganatha Dasaru. However, my father said reciting Shree Narashima Suladi composed by Shree Vikaya Dasaru it would ward off all of our difficulties we are facing throughout the world, just like Lord Narashima helped Putta Prahladha.

So, recite from tomorrow until May 24th which is Shree Narashima Jayanthi, after finish your morning pooje.

The video from Vid Kallapura Pavamanachar is amazing on the same.

Akshaya Thritiya ಅಕ್ಷಯ ತೃತಿಯಾ – May 14th 2021

Please check with your local calendar to find out about the same.

Akshaya Tritiya ಅಕ್ಷಯ  ತೃತಿಯಾ is the most important day in the hindu calendar.  Akshaya means growth and tritiya is the third day of the month in Vaishaka Masa. They say that in order to perform any major function like marriage, gruhapravesha you don’t even have to check your horoscope for finding a good Muhurtham. Any ritual or religious function performed on this day leads to growth.

The Uttaradi matta panchanga also mentions it is very important to apply gandha ಗಂಧ to the Lord. So, if you have access to the same, please do that as well.

On this day, many ladies give thambula including blouse piece, and other items. Any thing you give or donate they say becomes akshaya. Meaning infinite or one that never diminishes.

So, if you have decided to do anything new this year, this is the right day to get started.
