Shree Vijayeendra Theertharu

Today, tomorrow and day after is the Aaradhane of Shree Vijayeendra Theertharu. His period is from 1517 – 1614. He was given ashrama by none other than Shree Vyasarajaru. His brindavana is in Kumbhakonam.

I truly want to visit all these places, no idea when Rayaru will bless us to see his Gurugalu. He is the Guru of Shree Sudheendra Theertharu and Shree Sudheendra theertharu is Guru of our beloved Rayaru.

A very popular sloka on Shree Vijayeendra Theertharu:

Bhakthanam manasambhoja bhanave Khamadhenave |
Namatam Kalpatharave Jayeendragurave Namaha ||

  1. Respected Madam, Thank you. I am surprised that Kumbakonam had a mutt of this school. Recently, I read that Vyasa Theertha also had links to Kumbakonam and more surprisingly, was the head priest in Thirumaa. Ragavendra swami also seems to have been of Kumbakonam. Kindly give a special post on the lineage of Madhwa Acharyas. I am approaching from the Carnatic music angle. Best Regards RSR

      Kumbakonam was a centre of learning those days. In fact, Rayaru matha has a strong linkage with Tamilnadu. Vibudendra Theertharu’s moola b rindavan has been found at Tirunelveli. He was the founder of the present-day SRS matha, originally called as Vidya matha. Rayaru had his pattabhisheka on the banks of Vadavaru in Thanjavur and there is a brindavana, which is the second brindavana which is not a mruthige brindavana. This has a sarpa peeta, unlike others which have a kurma peeta. Please do visit these places including Srimushnam and Rayaru will guide you in your endeavor. In Srimushnam, Rayaru spent 12 years and Madhwacharya had observed one chaturmasya vratha there.

        Thanks so much for the details. We had planned to visit December last year, but due to COVID we had to cancel our trip to India. Once we have this pandemic in control, we will visit all those places. Thanks once again.
