Shri Madhava Theertha: Successor and Blessed by Madhwacharya

Shri Madhava Theertha, formerly known as Vishnu Shastri, became the third leader (pontiff) of the Uttaradi Matha after Madhwacharya’s disappearance. The revered idol of Vamsha Rama worshipped at the Matha today was acquired during his time.

Direct Disciples of Madhwacharya:

Madhwacharya’s four most senior disciples were Padmanabha Teertha, Narahari Teertha, Madhava Theertha, and Akshobhya Teertha. Notably, they succeeded each other as pontiffs of the Uttaradi Matha.

A Divine Encounter:

During a worship ceremony, Shri Madhava Theertha suddenly prostrated before an invisible figure. After completing the rituals, he explained that Madhwacharya himself had appeared, blessed the newly acquired Vamsha Rama idol, and offered him holy water. This miraculous event left everyone in awe.

A Scholarly Legacy:

Similar divine experiences are recounted about his successor, Akshobhya Teertha. Additionally, Shri Madhava Theertha is credited with composing a commentary on the Parasara Smriti and commentaries on the Vedas (Rig, Yajur, and Sama). His disappearance anniversary falls on Mahalaya Amavasya in the month of Aswin.

Final Resting Place:

The Brindavana (shrine) of Shri Madhava Theertha is located in Mannur.
