    The correct lyrics is
    Charanam ayyappa swami
    Saranam ayyappa
    Not
    Saranam ayyappa swami

  14. Bakthi has got no caste or creed.Being a madhwa I do not find any harm in listening to this song.Firstly one should have Vairaghya to learn Gnaana about the Almighty, thro Gnaana we have to do bakthi. That is what the great Acharyas also guided us.

My dear brothers and sisters of Sanathana Dharma our effort should always be in togetherness and believe that we are ONE. Praising of God and share his divinity is always appreciatable.
NO ONE is greater than Creator. So enjoy the lyrics and don’t confuse urself and others.

  36. Whatever happens, a particular group of ppl will end up in Krishna. The point of worshipping Ayyappa is, he is not bound to religion. This type of God is introduced into the society to avoid clashes between religions and castes. But some particular group trying to give powers to God, based one a particular book and praising one God. Oneness is Good point, but not supremacy over others. All Gods are one. we can call him/her krishna or shiva or ayappa or eshwari or any !!!

Yesudas from another religion accepted the divinity and sang a beautiful song and some least tolerant group of people talking about Madhwas and sub systems…. Eradicate caste, religion and enjoy divinity !!!

Ps: One book is not everything, its a collection of experience. you might get a different experience. Realize it yourself !!!

  43. Namaste,

Story of Ayyappa does not figure in any of the 18 Puranas or Upa Puranas by Veda Vyasa, hence is not considered authentic by Madhvas.

Since Sri Veda Vyasa is the ultimate authority neither should anybody else

    Based on the stotra
    1) Trinayanam Prabhum – He who is the lord of Shiva

You call him son of Shiva and now Lord of Shiva? so Shiva created his own Lord?

    2) Pranathakalpakam – He who created universe

I think it is clear in all the ayyapa accounts that the universe is clearly created before, so what exactly does this mean ?

    3) Mohini Roopa of Sri Hari was to prove Hari Sarvothamma !!!

    Jai Bharateesha,
    Hrishikesh

Sorry, Not Vyaji, it is Vaaji means horse. Kalabha (elephant) Kesari (lion) vaaji (horse) vahanam (vehicle) The one who rides on these animals.

I think Ayyappa temple has something to do with Buddhist worship. The very words like Dharma sastha, saranam, no caste or religous discrimination etc all leads to memory of Buddhist worshiip which was very prevelant in Kerala centuries back.
Can anybody give a word to word meaning of Harivarasanam. The common meanings (starting with Repository of Hari’s boons) is not completely correct. For example, Kalabha Kesari Vyaji vahanam means “Who is the rider of (who has vahanas of) elephant, lion and tiger.” and not as written in the meaning.(who is like lion to elephants)

1 clarification for the comments above… Ayyappa also known as “Hariharaputra” is the son of both Hari[Vishnu] and Hara[Shiva] when Hari took the “Mohini”avatar[Female avatar]. So, without any doubts Lord Ayyappa definitely comes under smartha, madhwa philosophies….

Correct me if I am wrong…

    Thanks,
    NSP.

The song was written by Kambamgudi Kulathur Iyer in praise of Ayyappa. Guess if you people see the meaning of the lyrics all doubts would be cleared

if u can understand what brucelee said about fighting with apponent if you look at the oponents will miss his and your moves….. you must fight other wise u will miss all the heavenly glory..like same wise if you only think of philosophy without enjoying the bhakti in the song you r only reduced mere crammer of philosophy

I doubt whether Ayyappa subscribes to Madhva philosophy.

Meera: I am not sure I understand your comment.
