Lyrics for Indu Enage Govinda

Sri Raghavendra Swami (1595-1671), lived in the 16th century. He advocated Vaishnavism and the Dvaita philosophy advocated by Madhvacharya. He is considered by his devotees to be a reincarnation of Prahlada, the devotee who was saved by Vishnu in his avatar as Narasimha. Shri Raghavendra Swami has performed many miracles during his lifetime and is believed to continue to bless his devotees to this day.

At Udupi, he sang his famous “Indu Enage Govinda” song upon seeing Udupi Sri Krishna. I will be posting all the lyrics on Sri Raghavendra Swami at this weblog.

  3. When I participated in Raghavendra Swamy’s Aradhane today, in Los Angeles, CA, I was pleasantly surprised by two developments. Within minutes into the function, the Swamijis started Vishnu Sahasra Namavali. It had been my intent to sing Vishnu Sahasra Namavali for quite some time, but had not been able to find find and interest, but Raghavendra Swamiji provided an opportunity to recite.

Thanks to my friend, I was able to participate in the serving of the food to all the attendees. At the fag end of the 2nd ‘pankti’, there was an announcement if anyone would be interested to sing a song, as the lunch was still going on. I readily responded and went and asked if I can sing Hanuman Chalisa, but Swamiji said that the meals is almost coming to an end and asked me to sing a small song. I picked up the song, “Indu Enage Govinda” as recited by S.Janaki in Kannada movie. Everyone appreciated the song. I was blessed by Raghavendra Swamiji for the 2nd time, by providing an opportunity to sing this song.

It was only on the way back home, when my wife said that this song was inked by Sri.Raghavendra Swamiji himself, that I came to know about the author of the song!! I have been avid lover of this song, since my childhood and never bothered to find who had authored this song. Sri Raghavendra Swamiji, not only got me to attend Aradhane function, but also directed me to sing HIS own song!!!

Coincidence, one would think. But I think, certainly not! This very thought that Sri.Raghavendra Swami gave me an opportunity to sing his own song, through me today, is sending chilling shivers in my back!!

I am blessed by Sri.Raghavendra Swamiji himself!!!

Awesome, Nagesh. There is no doubt that Shri Raghavendra Swamy wanted your seva, that’s why they say in Kannada ” Manda Bhagyarige Doreyadivara Seva”. You are blessed by Rayaru.

Are u sure that “At Udupi, he sang his famous “Indu Enage Govinda” song upon seeing Udupi Sri Krishna.”?. Please confirm the situation which made Sri Raghavendra Swamy to write this poem with historians or philosophers like Sri Bannanje Govindacharya. Because i heard Raghavendra Swamy, when standing before sri krishna in udupi, saw a married woman praying the lord with tears. This made him to write “indu enage govinda” dipicting the difficulties of that lady”.

I have written about what I have read in some of the books I have. I have no contact with any historians or philosophers. I am sorry about that. So, I don’t think I can contact any of them. Thanks for your input though.

  12. @ Sree,

The dream means you are sleeping in real world also, swamiji is saying you wake up and dont waste time doing useless things and sleeping and follow a path of Bhakti
