Sri Madhwa Navami at SKV, NC – Part 3

My earliest memory is of sitting with my Mom and Sister while my Mom performed Rayaru seva, singing bhajane. I learned many compositions from my father and continue to do so. I also learned from my late Ajji and Nalina Aunty. I vividly recall receiving a Bhajane book specifically about Rayaru from my late Mysore Tatha (Grandfather).

And it’s actually fantastic that we now have this chance to learn at our temple and also online. On a few projects I’m involved with, a new post has to be written. Stay tuned.

The Haridasaru’s taught that the simplest way to attain liberation is through the constant practice of Hari Bhajane. Sri Vadirajaru said, “Hari Bhajana Maado Nirantara – Paragatigidu Nirdhara” meaning “Perform Hari Bhajan constantly, it will lead to liberation without fail.” They believed that the path to Mukti lies solely in following the teachings of the Haridasaru.

As I mentioned in my previous 2 posts, we did Bhajane thrice during the Madhwa Navami celebrations. Some benefits of doing Bhajane on a regular basis:

  • Promotes devotion and spirituality: Bhajane helps to cultivate devotion towards God and promotes spiritual growth.
  • Relaxation and stress relief: Singing devotional songs has been found to have a calming effect on the mind and body, reducing stress and anxiety.
  • Improved mental health: Regular Bhajane practice has been associated with improved mental health, including increased happiness and reduced symptoms of depression.
  • Improved focus and concentration: Bhajane requires focus and concentration, which can improve cognitive skills and memory.
  • Increased community involvement: Bhajane is often performed in groups, which can help to build strong community bonds and increase social interaction.
  • Cultural preservation: Bhajane is an important part of India’s cultural heritage and practicing it helps to preserve this tradition and pass it down to future generations.

In this recording, I have shared us sing “Kayo Sree Narashima”. I had learnt this in 2014 and posted a video as sung by my Mother.

The one we sing at the temple has a different tune. It is truly amazing to be part of the Bhajane Group and be able to sing during major festivals and Dasara Aaradhanes.
