Ugabhoga 6 by Sri Purandara Dasaru

I have always joked about this Ugabogha with my Mother. In this day and age when we say we are equal to Men and there is no difference between a Man and a Woman, how does this even matter. I always teased, I will do my good deeds for myself and share it with anyone who needs. But life doesn’t work like that.

ಗಂಡ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪಾಪ, ಹೆಂಡತಿಗಿಲ್ಲ |
ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪಾಪ, ಗಂಡಗುಂಟು |
ಹೆಂಡತಿ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪುಣ್ಯ, ಗಂಡಗಿಲ್ಲ |
ಗಂಡ ಮಾಡಿದ ಪುಣ್ಯ, ಹೆಂಡತಿಗುಂಟು |
ಜೀವ ಜೀವರು ಭೇದ ನೀನೇ ಉದ್ಧರಿಸಯ್ಯಾ ಪುರಂದರವಿಠಲ ||

Ganda madida papa, hendatigilla |

hendati madida papa, gandaguntu |

hendati madida punya, gandagilla |

ganda madida punya, hendatiguntu |

jiva jivaru bheda nine ud’dharisayya purandaravithala ||

The meaning:

The sin committed by the husband, the wife does not get any of it
A sin committed by a wife, a husband gets it 100%
Good deeds done by the wife, husband doesn’t get any of them
Good deeds done by the husband, wife has equal share
Protect us even when there are difference Purandara Vittala
